Community Build: Mech Titan X Goes Life-Size
Alex R. scaled our Mech Titan X design to 180cm and printed it in 47 pieces over 3 weeks. Here's the full build log.
The Challenge
Scaling a 10cm figurine to 180cm isn't just multiplication — it's a complete re-engineering of the print strategy.
Splitting the Model
I used Chitubox to split the model into 47 pieces, each fitting within a 250×250×300mm build volume. Every joint was designed with a 0.3mm tolerance for a friction fit.
Material Choice
PLA+ for the main body (strength + slight flexibility for assembly), PETG for the joints (better layer adhesion under stress).
Print Farm Setup
I don't have a print farm — just three Bambu Lab X1C units running 24/7 for 22 days. Total filament used: 18.4kg.
Assembly
The internal skeleton is 20mm aluminum square tube. Each printed panel clips onto the frame with M4 bolts hidden behind panel lines.
Finishing
- Filler primer × 3 coats
- Wet sanding to 1500 grit
- Automotive base coat (Gunmetal Grey)
- Airbrushed panel shading
- Gloss clear coat
The Result
The finished Mech Titan X stands at my front door. It's been featured in two local news articles and drove 340 new followers to my Printastic creator page.
